About Us |
Pontlliw Players is an amateur/community theatre group with very professional ideas. We believe that the only difference between being an amateur and a professional is that the professional gets paid. We also get paid, but not in hard cash, our payment is the satisfaction of giving hundreds of people enjoyable entertainment, and enjoying ourselves in the process. We are very proud of our successful record of past productions. Being attached to the village hall as a completely integrated sub-section, coming under it's governance, aims and constitution, our members enjoy all the facilities at an affordable price. Our membership at present stands at around 45, from all walks of life and of all ages, from 8 to 80, some old hands, experienced performers for many years, others completely novice, but all have one thing in common, they enjoy the friendly atmosphere and social life of the group. However we are always on the look out for new members, both on-stage and behind the scenes. We are always pleased to welcome newcomers to our group, and are on the look out for actors, singers, dancers, backstage crew and front-of-house support. Beginner or 'old hand', come along and meet us, you can be assured of a warm welcome. If you would like to join us or just meet up for a chat, come along to our rehearsal one Wednesday evening from 7.15 at the village hall, check out our information pages, or contact us. How it all Began! The idea of an amateur dramatic group based at the village hall was first mooted in the year 2000 when a group of like minded friends got together and formed Pontlliw MADS (Music and Drama Society). The very first production of the new society was funded by a millenium grant which enabled the group to stage the pantomime 'Cinderella' in December 2001. The success of this show prompted the group to stage an 'Olde Tyme Music Hall' the following year, but sadly, due to differences of opinion which could not be resolved, this was to be the group's last show. It was decided to wind up the group. Written into the constitution was a clause that dictated the assets of the group were to be passed on to the village hall in such an event. Some of the original members were not prepared to let all their hard work be in vain, and being involved with the village hall decided to set up a new group as a section of the village hall, and so Pontlliw Players was born!
